Fashion designers then develop design concepts, mood boards, colour boards, sketches, and design briefs while considering factors such as materials, production processes, costing, quality standards, and client requirements. The field also involves transforming design concepts into practical garments through technical specifications, tech packs, pattern making, sewing, draping, and prototype development. Designers work closely with pattern makers, sampling merchandisers, tailors, and other production teams to create and evaluate prototype garments, make necessary modifications, and finalize designs for production. Along with creativity and innovation, successful fashion design requires strong knowledge of fabrics and garment construction, attention to detail, communication skills, aesthetic judgment, and the ability to use hand-sketching as well as digital design tools such as CorelDRAW, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
